Janis Joplin: "Try (Just A Little Bit Harder)" (1969)

Try, try, try just a little bit harder / So I can love, love, love him, I tell myself / Well, I'm gonna try yeah, just a little bit harder / So I won't lose, lose, lose him to nobody else. / Hey! Well, I don't care how long it's gonna take you now, / But if it's a dream I don't want / No I don't really want it / If it's a dream I don't want nobody to wake me. / Yeah, I'm gonna try, yeah, just a little bit harder / So I can give, give, give, give him every bit of my soul. / Yeah, I'm gonna try yeah, just a little bit harder / So I can show, show, show him love with no control. / Hey! I've waited so long for someone so fine / I ain't gonna lose my chance, no I don't wanna lose it, / Ain't gonna lose my chance to make you mine, all mine. / All right, get it! Yeah! Der Song "Try (Just A Little Bit Harder)" ist auf der 1996 beim Label Sony Music erschienenen CompilationCD "The Very Best Of Janis Joplin" zu finden. Janis put herself out there completely, and her voice was not only strong and soulful, it was painfully and beautifully real. She sang in the great tradition of the rhythm and blues singers that were her heroes, but she brought her own dangerous, sexy rock and roll edge to every single song. She really gave you a piece of her heart. And that inspired me to find my own voice and my own style, sagte Stevie Nicks von Fleetwood Mac über Janis Joplin, yeah, und Florence Welch von Florence & The Machine sagte: I learnt about Janis from an anthology of female blues singers. Janis was a fascinating character who bridged the gap between psychedelic blues and soul scenes. She was so vulnerable, self-conscious and full of suffering. She tore herself apart yet on stage she was totally different. She was so unrestrained, so free, so raw and she wasn't afraid to wail. Her connection with the audience was really important. It seems to me the suffering and intensity of her performance go hand in hand. There was always a sense of longing, of searching for something. I think she really sums up the idea that soul is about putting your pain into something beautiful. When the night has been too lonely and the road has been too long / And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong / Just remember in the winter, far beneath the bitter snows / Lies the seed, that with the sun's love in the spring becomes the rose.
