Der Song stammt aus dem concept album "Cruising With Ruben & The Jets" 1968. Da ursprünglich auf dem Album nirgends der Name The Mothers Of Invention draufstand, glaubte man Frank Zappa, der als Produzent des Albums auftrat, die Geschichte, dass es sich um ein Album von Ruben Sano und seiner Chicano Band The Jets handelte, die Songs im Stil der 50er Jahre, yeah, Doo-Wop und Rock’n’Roll, zum Besten gaben. Naja, vielleicht nicht so ganz, da auf der Rückseite ein Jugendfoto von Frank Zappa mit Kurzhaar im Stil der 50er abgebildet war, das vorgab Ruben Sano zu zeigen, aber durchaus als Foto von Frank Zappa zu erkennen war. Hm, vielleicht dachten auch manche das Bild zeigt eben den Produzenten, weil gleich rechts davon Produced by Frank Zappa zu lesen stand. Egal. Das Album wurde in der Besetzung Ray Collins (Vocals), Frank Zappa (Guitar, Bass, Piano, Drums, Vocals), Roy Estrada (Bass, Vocals), Jimmy Carl Black (Drums), Arthur Dyer Tripp III (Drums), Ian Underwood (Piano, Saxophon), Don Preston (Piano), Motorhead Sherwood (Saxophone, Tambourine) und Bunk Gardner (Saxophone) eingespielt. Auf dem Frontcover des Albums ist eine Zeichnung der Band von Cal Schenkel, das die Musiker als Menschen mit - hm - Hundegesichtern, würd ich mal sagen, zeigt. Cal Schenkel: I love naive and folk art, art that has an unfinished look. I don't like the polished for the most part. Now what that means or where it comes from I'm not sure. But I was probably influenced graphically by artists I saw in school. And of course there's the comic book look - like Krazy Kat. A part of it was just lack of skill. Trying to take advantage of my own naivety. I'd really only had a semester of art school, so I hadn't evolved my style when I was doing all of this. It just comes natural, too. Okay, von 1972 bis 1974 gab es dann wirklich eine Band mit dem Namen Ruben & The Jets, deren erstes Album "For Real!" 1973 von Frank Zappa produziert wurde und die mit The Mothers Of Invention auf Tournee ging, was die ganze Story noch um einiges verwirrter machte. Die Band bestand aus den Musikern Ruben Guevara, Tony Duran, Robert 'Frog' Camarena, Johnny Martinez, Robert 'Buffalo' Roberts, Bill Wild, Bob Zamora und Mike Albert. Auf dem zweiten Album der Band "Con Safos" 1974 spielte dann Motorhead Sherwood von den Mothers auch mit. Beide Alben erschienen bei Mercury Records. Frank Zappa: I never set out to be weird. It was always other people who called me weird. Das Album "Cruising With Ruben & The Jets" wurde 1985 als CD beim Label Rykodisc wiederveröffentlicht. Im Jahr 2010 kam es dann unter dem Titel "Greasy Love Songs" beim Label Zappa neu raus.
