Do the hammer lock! / Everybody's doing it / Raid! Yeah, hier gehts um Wrestling und zwar um den Wrestler Reginald Lisowski, der sich 1959 den Ringnamen The Crusher zulegte. Reginald Lisowski wurde 1926 in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin geboren und begann seine sportliche Karriere beim Football Team der South Milwaukee High School. Seinen ersten Kampf als Wrestler absolvierte er 1949. Bis Anfang der 60er Jahre kämpfte er meist im Team mit Dick the Bruiser alias William Fritz Afflis, dann machte er Solo Karriere und gewann das AWA World Heavyweight Championship dreimal in Folge. Im Jahr 1981 schien seine Wrestlinglaufbahn nach einem Kampf gegen Jerry Blackwell, bei dem er sich die rechte Schulter verletzte, beendet. Die Ärzte empfahlen ihm, mit dem Wrestling Schluß zu machen, doch The Crusher kehrte 1983 in den Ring zurück und war für längere Zeit Partner von Hulk Hogan, yeah, seinen letzten Kampf hatte The Crusher 1989 mit 63 Jahren. Er starb 2005 an einem Gehirntumor: Raid! / Okay, you take your fist and put it on your waist / And if you don't, you're gonna be a disgrace / And then you squeeze your partner's head just below the face / Raid! / Do the Crusher! Do the Crusher! / Raid! Do the Crusher, you turkey necks! / Yeah, do the Crusher! Do the Crusher! / Everybody do it now! / Raid! Die Band The Novas wurde 1964 in Minnesota gegründet und bestand aus Bob Nolan (Guitar, Vocals), Jim Ronald (Guitar, Vocals), John Eckley (Guitar), Jim Owens (Bass) und dem 13-jährigen Jeff Raymond (Drums). Die Band veröffentlichte in der kurzen Zeit ihres Bestehens nur 2 Singles, "The Crusher / Take 7" 1964 bei Parrot Records und "Novas Coaster / On The Road Again" 1965 bei Twin Town Records. Im Jahr 1999 wurden die beiden Singles bei Norton Records als EP wiederveröffentlicht, zusätzlich gibts darauf noch den Song "My Sin Is My Pride", eine unveröffentlichte Demoaufnahme. Der Song "The Crusher" ist auf der 1995 bei Big Beat Records erschienenen CompilationCD "Rockabilly Psychosis And The Garage Disease" zu finden. "The Crusher" wurde von der Band The Cramps auf ihrer CD "Psychedelic Jungle" 1981 wundervoll gecovert. Terry Campbell schreibt im Blog The Devil’s Music: I meet Bob Nolan the singer of the Novas ten years ago. I was working at a record store and he came in. He told me he was in a band in the 60's and I had probably never heard of it. I asked what the name was and he said the Novas. I have always loved the song Crusher. I felt so lucky to meet him. Not only had I heard of the band there was a copy of the 45 at the store. I had him sign it and I bought it. I would like to reach out to Bob. Also läßt sich daraus schließen, dass Bob Nolan, der Sänger des Songs, vor 10 Jahren noch unter den Lebenden weilte, yeah. Es ist toll, wie er bei Raid! den Schlachtruf des Crushers nachmacht. Der US-Amerikanische Garagepop der 60er Jahre ist eine tiefe Fundgrube für Popperlen, yeah, und irgendwie eine tolle Reaktion auf die britische Beatmusik, die damals die USA eroberte. Yeah, yeah, yeah!
