The White Noise: "Here Come The Fleas" (1969)

Here come the fleas, they're on your knees / So move over please, i don't want you around me / Dirt on the floor from six weeks or more, / You say it's a bore to keep this darn hole tidy / Why'd you do (Shut up) the things that most (Beatnicking) people frown at? / You hav'nt washed yourself for weeks? (Go back to sleep). David Vorhaus: I use voices a lot too, but not as conventional vocals. I always use a lot of voices, and if somebody having an orgasm in the background is used as part of one of the waveforms, it makes the sound more interesting, without the listener actually knowing what they're hearing. David Vorhaus: I have no basic rules on recording methods. If I'm recording a commissioned piece for somebody, then it has to follow their guidelines and may be put together very differently from something I'm composing for an album. A typical example is the theme I did for Equinox, which had to tie in with the graphics and hit certain cue points. Everything was very mapped out, so I use making albums as a way of exploring new things and the rules kind of evolve as I go along. I tend to get a lot of sounds together first, keep the ones that fit, reject the ones that don't, and often a musical idea will evolve out of the sounds I start with. I also use a lot of controller data alongside my loops. I tend to use an album as a means of exploring new equipment or software, and the album is really a culmination of what I can do with the stuff. At the moment I'm at the stage of exploring the equipment - and I guess Reaktor is the new thing. Kenny Everett used the first percussive break, after verse one, as a jingle on his radio programme. Brian Hodgson plays the Carribean gentleman asking for the music to be turned down as he can't hear his own steel band. Very Island Records. Co-written with John Renn-McDonald. Wow!
