Mit den meisten Tonträgern ist aber mit ziemlicher Sicherheit Marc Bolan in meiner Popsammlung vertreten, von seinen Anfängen als Toby Tyler über John’s Children und Tyrannosaurus Rex bis zu seinem großen Erfolg mit T.Rex. Der erste Tonträger mit Kevin Ayers, der in meiner Sammlung Platz fand, war das Livealbum "June 1, 1974" von Kevin Ayers, John Cale, Eno, Nico & The Soporifics with special guests Mike Oldfield and Robert Wyatt. Nein, ich hab mir dieses Album damals nicht wegen Kevin Ayers, sondern wegen Eno besorgt, der mir als Glamfan viel näher stand. Das Album wurde bei einem Konzert im Rainbow Theatre in London mitgeschnitten und die Band The Soporifics bestand aus Ollie Halsall (Guitar, Piano), John 'Rabbit' Bundrick (Organ, Piano), Archie Leggatt (Bass) und Eddie Sparrow (Drums, Tympani) sowie den Backgroundsängerinnen Doreen Chanter, Irene Chanter und Liza Strike. Auf Side A sind von Eno die Songs "Driving Me Backwards" und "Baby’s On Fire", von John Cale eine Version des Elvis-Songs "Heartbreak Hotel" und von Nico eine Version des Doors-Songs "The End" enthalten, Side B steht ganz im Zeichen von Kevin Ayers und seinen Songs "May I?", "Standing In A Bucket Blues", "Stranger In Blue Suede Shoes", "Everybody’s Sometime And Some People All The Time Blues" und "Two Goes Into Four". Die Klangqualität des Mitschnitts ist leider nicht so toll, der Gesang von Kevin Ayers viel zu leise, trotzallem verliebte ich mich auf Anhieb in seine Musik. Das erste Studioalbum von Kevin Ayers, das ich mir danach anschaffte, war "Sweet Deceiver" 1975. Meine Lieblingssongs darauf sind "City Waltz" und "Guru Banana". Bei "City Waltz" wird Kevin Ayers von Ollie Haircut alias Ollie Halsall (Guitar, Bass, Mandolin), Jacob Magnusson (Organ, Accordion) und Freddie Smith (Drums) unterstützt und bei "Guru Banana" von John Altman (Clarinet), Elton John (Piano), Ollie Haircut (Bass, Vocals) und Freddie Smith (Drums). Das Cover ziert ein von Tony Wright gemaltes Porträt von Kevin Ayers, wonderful, ich hatte es längere Zeit über meinem Bett hängen. Als nächstes kam "Odd Ditties" 1976 ins Haus, eine Compilation mit Songs aus den Jahren 1969 bis 1973. Eine dieser Singles war "Caribbean Moon / Take Me To Tahiti" 1973. Auf dem Cover von "Odd Ditties" ist ein von Ed Bishop gezeichnetes Porträt von Kevin Ayers zu bewundern. Ebenfalls wonderful. Als Kevin Ayers 2013 im Alter von 68 Jahren starb, verbrachte ich einige Tage mit seinen Songs zuhause um mich zu wieder beruhigen. Kevin Ayers: Philosophically, the only person that influenced me was Gurdjieff. What he said made sense to me. What I really liked about him was, he was a total charlatan. He didn't make any bones about it. His thing was that you cannot present the truth to people in simple form. You have to elaborate. Otherwise they're not interested. Did you ever read his book? It's just bullshit, absolute bullshit. But he says, you have to write 100 pages to say one sentence, to make it interesting for people. Otherwise they won't accept it as real. You have to say a lot in order to get a little across. Mit Gurdjieff ist der griechisch-armenische Philosoph Georges I. Gurdjieff, manchesmal auch Georgi Iwanowitsch Gjurdschijew oder Georgij Ivanovic Gjurdžiev geschrieben, gemeint. Sein bei uns wohl bekanntestes Werk ist "Beelzebubs Erzählungen für seine Enkel. Eine objektiv unparteiische Kritik des Lebens der Menschen". Gurdjieff war aber auch Komponist, seine "Sacred Music" wurde unter anderem von Keith Jarrett gespielt und publiziert. Gurdjieff starb 1949 im Alter von 82 Jahren in Paris, Frankreich.
