The Deadbeats waren eine kurzlebige Punkband aus Los Angeles und bestanden aus Scott Guerin (Vocals, Percussion), Geza X. Gedeon (Guitar, Vocals), Pasquale Amadeo (Bass, Vocals), Shaun Guerin (Drums, Vocals) und Pat Delaney (Saxophone). Im Jahr 1978 veröffentlichte die Band bei Dangerhouse Records die EP "Kill The Hippies", auf der die 4 Songs "Kill The Hippies", "Brainless", "Final Ride" und "Deadbeat" zu hören sind. Geza X. Gedeon hatte davor bereits in der Punkband The Bags gespielt, mit der er 1978 bei Dangerhouse Records die Single "Survive / Babyloneon Gorgon" veröffentlichte. Nach den Deadbeats veröffentlichte er mit der Band Silver Chalice die Single "Wasted / Hot Tears" 1979 bei Final Gear Records und die EP "Evil Birds" 1985 bei XES Records. Als Geza X. gibts von ihm noch die Singles "Rx Rock & Roll / Pony Ride" 1979 bei Final Gear Records und "We Need More Power / Hungarian / Mean Mr. Mommy Man" 1981 bei Alternative Tentacles Records sowie das Album "You Goddam Kids!" 1981 bei Burger Records zu hören. Von den Deadbeats wurde lange Zeit später noch das Album "Deadbeats On Parade" beim Label Sympathy For The Record Industry veröffentlicht, die Band hat anscheinend Ende der 70er Jahre ein ganzes Album aufgenommen, das Dank Sympathy For The Records Industry doch noch den Weg zu seinen Fans gefunden hat. Ein Song auf dem Album trägt den Titel "Let’s Kill More Hippies Like We Did Last Year", yeah. Zum Abschluss lassen wir jetzt noch einen Insider namens Octavio Pretentious ein wenig über The Deadbeats plaudern: I'm the cat who designed all those Deadbeats flyers that are probably still hanging on your wall. I first came into contact with the band through Cathie Deadbeat. She was the singers girlfriend and did the bands makeup. She helped define the Deadbeat look and, brother, I'll tell you the Deadbeats looked like no other band. At least not until the Dickies got an eyeful of them. Bands may have tried to cop their look, but nobody could cop their sound. Hell, maybe nobody wanted to. On one flyer Brendan Mullen described the band as Bill Haley meets Captain Beefheart in the Theater of the Absurd. Ja, Los Angeles hatte Ende der 70er Jahre einiges an Punk zu bieten, The Flesh Eaters, The Weirdos, Germs, The Controllers, The Skulls, Angry Samoans, Black Randy & The Metrosquad, The Screamers, The Dickies, X, Bags, The Plugz, 45 Grave etcetera etcetera. Uups, ich habe mich geirrt, das 1996 bei Sympathy For The Record Industry erschienene Album "Deadbeats On Parade" wurde 1996 aufgenommen und nicht Ende der 70er Jahre, wie ich vermutete. Die Deatbeats haben sich für dieses Album fast in der Originalbesetzung nochmals zusammengetan, Scott Guerin, Geza X. Gedeon, Pasquale Amadeo, Shaun Guerin, nur Saxophonist Pat Delaney war nicht mehr dabei, das Saxophon spielte nun Jay Richardson. Im Jahr 2014 sind die Deadbeats bei der "Dangerhouse Night" im Echoplex sogar nochmals live aufgetreten. On a bill packed with some of the creme de la creme of California punk bands, the Deadbeats stole the show with tightly executed jazzbo-punk, caustic humor and stunning fashion-forward ensembles. Ja, die alten Herren könnens nicht lassen, 2015 spielten die Deadbeats beim 40th Anniversary Of Punk Renaissance Event in San Francisco, u.a. spielten sie den Song "I Hate Punks", davon gibts ein Video bei vimeo.com. Der Song "Brainless" ist auf der 2016 bei Soul Jazz Records erschienenen Compilation "Punk 45 - Chaos in the City Of Angels And Devils, Hollywood From X To Zero & Hardcore On The Beaches (Punk In Los Angeles 1977-81)" zu finden. Der kürzeste Song darauf dauert 54 Sekunden, heißt "I’m White And Middle Class" und stammt von den Urinals, yeah, eine Band namens The Middle Class ist auch auf dem Sampler und spielt für uns den Song "Out Of Vogue".
