"Warning" is a well-arranged combination of ringing guitar chords, thudding drum beat and bass line, simple organ melody, a great rough lead vocal answered by a second singer and a harmonica solo. The Humans wurde 1964 in Albion, New York gegründet und bestanden aus den Musikern Dick Doolan (Vocals), Danny Long (Vocals, Harmonica), Bill Kuhns (Guitar), Gar Trusselle (Keyboards), Marty Busch (Bass) und Jack Dumrese (Drums). Die 6 spielten bevor sie eine Beatband wurden schon in der High School Marching Band zusammen. Ihren ersten grossen Auftritt hatten The Humans 1966 beim Rheingold Festival in Central Park, Manhattan. Dieses Festival fand jährlich von 1966 bis 1976 im Sommer statt und wurde von der F. & M. Schaefer Brewing Company also Schaefer Beer gesponsert, ja, und ab 1968 hieß es dann auch The Schaefer Music Festival. Auf diesem Festival trat natürlich alles auf, was damals Rang und Namen hatte, yeah, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, The Mothers Of Invention, Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, Golden Earring undsoweiter undsofort, aber auch zahlreiche Newcomer-Bands wie The Humans. Okay, 1966 nahmen The Humans ihre einzige Single "Take A Taxi / Warning" bei Audition Records auf. Das Label gehörte ihrem Manager Al Cecere, der ihnen auch Auftritte als Vorgruppe von The Hollies, Mytch Rider & The Detroit Wheels oder The Standells verschaffte. Die beiden Songs der Single hat Gitarrist Bill Kuhns geschrieben. So, hier nun ein Auszug aus einem Interview mit Keyboarder Gar Trusselle, das ich auf www.garagehangover.com gefunden habe. Q: Do you remember any details about the Riposo Studio and making the record? A: All I can remember is that the studio was in Syracuse. Someone said "Wooly Bully" was recorded there but I cannot verify that. Q: Did it get any airplay at the time? A: We did get good local airplay and some national as well. Billboard reported us in the top twenty in a Michigan and Texas market but it did not last. Q: Did the band perform "Warning" and "Take A Taxi" during your live shows? A: We did perform the two songs live at every performance. Q: The band had long hair for 1966, did that cause any trouble? A: Nothing but. However, we had a lot of local support even from the adult side. Q: How did the band break up, and did you stay in music after? A: It began when Danny Long died in a car accident in September of 1966. We went on from there but the draft started to whittle at the group. I think our last job was in November of 1966 at our own venue in Albion. We had rented the local movie theater, remodeled it, and named it "Happiness Is…". Angeblich waren auch die Bandnamen The Insects oder The Animals im Gespräch bevor man sich schließlich The Humans nannte. Okay, The Animals gabs bereits in Great Britain, eine Band namens The Insects, glaub ich, gabs in den 60er Jahren keine. Bob Dylan: Play it fuckin' loud!
