Hm, Peter Grudzien spielt so eine Art Surrealistic Hillbilly Garage Pop und wird meist unter der Kategorie outsider music geführt. Im Buch "Songs In The Key Of Z: The Curious Universe Of Outsider Music" 2000 von Irwin Chusid kann man einiges über Peter Grudzien in Erfahrung bringen. Autor Irwin Chusid erzählte in einem Interview, wie Peter Grudzien reagierte, als man ihm mit dem Begriff outsider music konfrontierte: He kinda shrugged and said 'I don't know what it means, if it helps more people hear my music then it's good'. Peter Grudzien wurde in New York geboren, das Geburtsjahr konnte ich nirgends finden, jedenfalls verliebte er sich als Jugendlicher in die Musik von Hank Williams, Lefty Frizzell, Johnny Horton und Johnny Cash. Peter Grudzien studierte Kunst, begeisterte sich für Bob Dylan, experimentierte mit hallucinogenic drugs und begann regelmäßig mit seinen Songs im Greenwich Village aufzutreten. In seinem Song "I Don’t Complain" 1964 besingt er zum Beispiel einen Peyote Trip. Ende der 60er Jahre war Peter Grudzien in die so genannten Stonewall Riots involviert und begann sich aktiv im Gay Rights Movement zu engagieren. Im Jahr 1974 nahm Peter Grudzien das Album "The Unicorn" auf, ließ 500 Stück davon pressen und verkaufte es bei seinen Auftritten und in Bookstores. Er nahm in den 70er Jahren auch noch das Album "Garden Of Love" auf, das aber erst 2007 beim Label Subliminal Sounds veröffentlicht wurde, es erschien gemeinsam mit "The Unicorn" als Doppelalbum. Peter Grudzien tritt auch heute noch in kleinen Clubs in New York auf und verkauft bei seinen Auftritten selbstproduzierte Kassetten, sein Label nennt er Unicorn Sound. Bei www.discogs.com kann man einige dieser Kassetten auch käuflich erwerben. Paul Major, der Betreiber des Labels Subliminal Sounds besuchte Peter Grudzien in New York und schreibt über dieses Treffen: I met him in a downtown drag bar. He was like something out of the Addams family: really tall and skinny, in an obviously slept in tuxedo, 55 years old. He wanted me to go out to his car and listen to this song he'd recorded the morning before, and when we walked down the sidewalk in Greenwich Village, every head turned on both sides of the street! I got into the car, it was covered with cigarette stains and grease and smelled strongly of gas - I was afraid that when he turned the key in the ignition to play the tape deck, the car would explode. He turned out to be a walking encyclopedia of early country music, he had met a lot of big country stars. Das Album "The Unicorn" wurde 1995 beim Label Parallel World als CD wiederveröffentlicht. Im CD-Booklet ist Peter Grudzien mit Johnny Cash abgebildet. Johnny Cash was not only a great talent, he was extremely handsome, and I became a fan of him and would buy everything he recorded. I met Johnny Cash at his second concert in the New York area in 1958. I gave him a tape of some songs I had written then, when I was 16 years old, schreibt Peter Grudzien im Booklet. In the 1960's, my country music began becoming openly gay and still is to this day. I write and record my songs in a home studio and do all the tracks, mostly guitar. I also do my own engineering and mixing. I guess I'm in my own bag doing overtly gay country music, but it is what I like doing best. So, jetzt noch eine Songempfehlung, "Dialogue And Random" von Agitation Free, habe ich leider im Jahr 1973, wo er eigentlich hingehört, vergessen. Der Song ist auf dem 1973 beim Label Music Factory erschienenen Album "Agitation Free 2nd" zu finden, es wurde 2002 beim Label Garden Of Delights als CD wiederveröffentlicht. Die Band Agitation Free bestand 1973 aus den Musikern Michael Hoenig (Synthesizer, Keyboards), Stefan Diez (Guitar), Lutz Ulbrich (Guitar, Bouzouki), Michael Günther (Bass) und Burghard Rausch (Drums, Percussion, Vocals, Mellotron). Krautrock macht Freude! Okay, das Schlusswort spricht diesmal Paul Hindemith: Der Weg vom Kopf in die Hand ist weit, solange er noch spürbar ist. Der Komponist Paul Hindemith starb 1963 im Alter von 68 Jahren in Frankfurt am Main, er schrieb unter anderem die Musik zum Stummfilm "Im Kampf mit dem Berge" 1921 von Arnold Fanck. Paul Hindemith ging 1938 ins Exil, auch der Regisseur Arnold Fanck lehnte zunächst die Zusammenarbeit mit den Nazis ab, blieb aber in Deutschland und trat dann 1940 doch in die NSDAP ein. Shit!
