Disco, yeah. Sister Sledge wurde 1971 von den Schwestern Debbie, Joni, Kim und Kathy Sledge in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania gegründet. Erste Erfolge hatten sie mit den Songs "Mama Never Told Me" 1973, "Love Don’t You Go Through No Changes On Me" 1974 und "Protect Our Love" 1975. Im Jahr 1975 erschien auch ihr Debütalbum "Circle Of Love" bei Atco Records. So richtig erfolgreich wurden sie aber erst 1979 mit ihrem dritten Album "We Are Family" bei Cotillion Records, das von Nile Rodgers und Bernard Edwards von der Band Chic produziert wurde und mit "We Are Family", "Lost In Music" und "He’s The Greatest Dancer" gleich 3 Hits enthielt. Bis zum achten Studioalbum "When The Boys Meet The Girls" 1985 spielten die Sisters Sledge dann in der obersten Disco-Liga mit. Kathy Sledge verließ die Sisters 1989 und versuchte eine Solokarriere, die aber nicht so richtig klappen wollte. Die anderen 3 Sisters machten als Sister Sledge weiter und veröffentlichten noch die beiden wenig erfolgreichen Alben "African Eyes" 1997 und "Style" 2003. Das Album "We Are Family" wurde 1995 bei Rhino Records als CD wiederveröffentlicht und ist ein Highlight in jeder Popsammlung.
