Antifolk oder Intuitive Folk, wie Diane Cluck ihre Musik selbst nennt. Diane Cluck wuchs in einer amischen Gemeinschaft in Pennsylvania auf. Die so genannten Amischen haben ihre Wurzeln in der reformatorischen Täuferbewegung in Mitteleuropa, der Name leitet sich vom Begründer, dem Schweizer Prediger Jakob Ammann ab. Die Täufer, auch Wiedertäufer genannt, werden des öfteren als der linke Flügel der Reformation bezeichnet und zu ihren Konzept gehört die Nachfolge Christi und die damit verbundene Gewaltlosigkeit. Jakob Ammann starb im Jahr 1730, als sein Geburtsjahr wird 1644 angenommen, also wenn das stimmt, wurde er für damalige Verhältnisse wirklich steinalt. Egal, hier gehts um Pop. Diane Cluck bekam ab ihrem siebenten Lebenjahr Klavierunterricht und besuchte dann die Pennsylvania Academy of Music in Lancaster. Im Jahr 2000 verließ sie die amische Gemeinschaft und zog nach New York, wo sie häufig bei den Open-Mic-Nights im Sidewalk Café auftrat. Ihre ersten 3 Alben, "Diane Cluck" 2000, "Macy's Day Bird" 2001 und "Oh Vanille / Ova Nil" 2003, gab sie selbst heraus und verkaufte sie hauptsächlich bei ihren Auftritten. Diane Gluck begleitet ihren Gesang auf ihren Alben selbst mit Instrumenten wie Gitarre, Geige, Zither, Harmonium, Piano oder Glockenspiel. Im Jahr 2005 erschien dann das Album "Countless Times" beim Label Voodoo Eros, das von Bianca Casady von CocoRosie betrieben wird. Bei Voodoo Eros erschienen außer "Countless Times" von Diane Cluck noch Alben von Quinn Walker, Bunny Rabbit alias Melisa Rincón und dem Duo Metallic Falcons, das aus Matteah Baim und Sierra Casady, der Schwester von Bianca Casady, bestand. Diane Cluck: I've been making music since I was born, I don't know how it happened but it's a natural human condition. Von Diane Cluck gibts außerdem noch die Alben "Monarcana" 2006 und "Boneset" 2014, ersteres erschien bei Very Friendly Records und zweiteres bei Important Records. Anscheinend wird es aber bald ein neues Album geben, Diane Gluck postet auf ihrer Homepage: This past summer I recorded my eighth album, "Common Wealth". Its sound is influenced by the regional flavor of my adopted home in the southeast, new friendships with local jazz musicians, my love for piano, and some deep emotional spelunking, surfacing with gifts to share with all of you. It includes songs many of you have been enjoying in my concerts and asked about such as "Red August", "To Love You This Much", "Grandma Say" and "Learn To Lose". Since 2000 I've made six home-recorded albums and one studio album, "Boneset". Studio albums can be costly, and this summer I gave myself the gift of three weeks studio time at White Star Sound in Louisa, Virginia. It's important to me to give as much consideration to the quality of my new recordings as I've been giving to my songcraft for years. I'm happy to say that eight musicians including myself and co-producer Colin Killalea collaborated beautifully to bring "Common Wealth" to life. Diane Gluck spricht von ihrem achten Album, naja, da muss sie wohl die EP "Black With Green Leaves" 2002 mitzählen. Egal, freuen wir uns auf das neue Album von Diane Gluck. Der Song "Easy To Be Around" ist auf dem Album "Oh Vanille / Ova Nil" 2003 zu finden und erschien dann 2007 bei Twisted Nerve Records in Manchester, England als 7"-Single mit dem Titel "Selections From Oh Vanille / Ova Nil", da sind die 4 Songs "Easy To Be Around", "Petite Roses", "Sandy Ree" und "Yr Million Sweetnesses" drauf. Diane Cluck ist auch auf der 2002 bei Rough Trade Records erschienenen Compilation "Antifolk Vol.1" mit dem Song "Monte Carlo" vertreten.
P.S.: Das Album ist inzwischen als Self-release erschienen, "Common Wealth" 2020. Yeah!
