Den Song "Blind Willie McTell" hat Bob Dylan geschrieben und 1983 aufgenommen, veröffentlicht wurde die Aufnahme dann aber erst 1991 auf der Dylan-Compilation "The Bootleg Series Volumes 1-3 (Rare & Unreleased) 1961-1991" bei Columbia Records. Die Version von Dream Syndicate erschien 1988 auf der Split-Single "Blind Willie McTell / High In A Flat" von The Dream Syndicate und The Bevis Frond. Die Single war eine Gratisbeilage der Zeitschrift Bucketfull Of Brain. Neo-Psychedelic, yeah. The Dream Syndicate wurde 1981 von Steve Wynn (Guitar, Vocals), Karl Precoda (Guitar), Kendra Smith (Bass, Vocals) und Dennis Duck (Drums) in Los Angeles, Kalifornien gegründet. Im Jahr 1982 erschienen die EP "The Dream Syndicate" bei Down There Records und das Debütalbum "The Days Of Wine And Roses" bei Ruby Records. Bereits 1983 verließ Kendra Smith die Band und gründete mit David Roback (Guitar) die Band Opal. Das zweite Album von The Dream Syndicate, "Medicine Show", erschien 1984 bei A&M Records, am Bass war nun Dave Provost zu hören. Weiter ging es dann bei Chrysalis Records, wo 1986 das Album "Out Of The Grey" erschien. Inzwischen hatten Karl Precoda und Dave Provost Dream Syndicate verlassen, die Gitarre spielte nun Paul B. Cutler und den Bass Mark Walton. In dieser Besetzung und mit Unterstützung von Chris Cacavas (Piano, Organ, Accordion) erschien 1988 bei Enigma Records noch das Album "Ghost Stories" und 1989 lösten sich The Dream Syndicate auf. Steve Wynn veröffentlichte 1990 sein erstes Soloalbum "Kerosene Man" bei Dureco Records und gründete 1992 mit Bryan Harvey (Guitar, Vocals), Stephen McCarthy (Guitar, Vocals), Bob Rupe (Bass, Vocals) und Johnny Hott (Drums, Vocals) die Band Gutterball. Im Jahr 2012 gingen The Dream Syndicate in der Besetzung Steve Wynn, Dennis Duck, Mark Walton und Jason Victor (Guitar) erneut an den Start. Bis zum nächsten Album "How Did I Find Myself Here?" mussten die Fans aber noch bis 2017 warten. Das Album erschien beim Label Anti-, dort sind seither noch die Alben "These Times" 2019 und "The Universe Inside" 2020 erschienen. Der Song "Blind Willie McTell" von The Dream Syndicate ist auch auf der 2003 bei Mute Records erschienenen Compilation "Rough Trade Shops: Country 1" zu finden. Die Serie Rough Trade Shops startete 2001 mit der 4-CD-Box "Rough Trade Shops: 25 Years" und zuletzt erschien 2021 "Rough Trade Shops: End Of The Road 2021". Sehr schön ist auch die 2016 erschienene Compilation "Rough Trade Shops: Heroes 1", auf der u.a. Songs von Family Fodder über Debbie Harry, von Daniel Johnston über die Beatles, von Cabaret Voltaire über James Brown, von The Fall über Damo Suzuki oder von der Fat White Family über Mark E. Smith zu finden sind. Okay, jetzt will ich euch noch die Singer-Songwriterin Dory Previn ans Herz legen, hört euch die Songs "Daddy In The Attic" 1970 und "Mary C. Brown And The Hollywood Sign" 1971 an. Dory Previn wurde 1925 als Dorothy Veronica Langan in New Jersey geboren und veröffentlichte 1958 ihr Debütalbum "The Leprechauns Are Upon Me". Das Album erschien unter dem Namen Dory Langdon, erst ihr zweites Album "On My Way To Where" 1970 erschien unter Dory Previn, denn inzwischen hatte sie den Komponisten André Previn geheiratet. Ihr letztes Album "We’re Children Of Coincidence And Harpo Marx" erschien 1976. Im selben Jahr veröffentlichte Dory Previn auch eine Autobiografie "Midnight Baby - An Autobiography", der sie 1980 unter dem Titel "Bogtrotter - An Autobiography With Lyrics" einen zweiten Teil folgen ließ. Dory Previn starb 2012 im Alter von 86 Jahren.
