Darkwave, yeah. Der Song "Me The Silent Daughter" ist auf der 1996 bei Dressed To Kill Records erschienenen 6-CD-Box "Gothic Erotica" zu finden. In dieser Box ist auch noch der Song "G Minor" von Dust enthalten. Weitere Songs von Dust sind auf Samplern wie "Palace Of Worms" 1996, "The Goth Witch Project" 1999, "Live Forever - The Most Beautiful & Haunting Gothic Collection" 2001 oder auf "Compilation Appearances Vol.1" von der Band Lycia zu finden. Dust waren nämlich ein sogenanntes side project von Lycia, das von 1994 bis 1996 aktiv war. Die Darkwave-Band Lycia wurde 1988 von Mike VanPortfleet (Vocals, Guitar, Synthesizer) in Tempe, Arizona als Soloprojekt gegründet. Doch bereits ein paar Monate später wurde Lycia mit John Fair (Bass, Drum Programming) zum Duo. Bei Orphanage Records erschien 1989 die Kassette "Wake", die dann 1993 bei Projekt Records um 3 Songs erweitert als CD wiederveröffentlicht wurde. John Fair verließ Lycia 1990 und schloss sich der seit 1986 bestehenden Indie-Rock-Band Caterwaul an. Das nächste Lycia-Album "Ionia" erschien 1991 bei Projekt Records und wurde von Mike VanPortfleet im Alleingang eingespielt, nur bei den Songs "Renewal" und "Monsoon I (Anticipation)" wurde er von Will Welch (Sampler) unterstützt. Bei Projekt Records erschien von Lycia bisher zuletzt 2018 das Album "In Flickers", bei dem die Band aus Mike VanPortfleet, John Fair, der wieder zu Lycia zurückgekehrt war, Tara Vanflower (Vocals), David Galas (Bass, Synthesizer, Drum Programming) und Dirk VanPortfleet (Gong) bestand. Dust waren Mike VanPortfleet und John Fair, sicher bin ich mir da aber nicht. Egal. Im Jahr 1995 haben Mike VanPortfleet und David Galas bei Projekt Records das Album "Vane" unter dem Namen Bleak veröffentlicht. Weitere Seitenprojekte von Lycia waren Estraya und Snowblind, Estraya waren Mike VanPortfleet und Tara Vanflower und Snowblind Mike VanPortfleet und David Galas. Mike Van Portfleet hat 2004 bei Silber Records auch das Soloalbum "Beyond The Horizon Line" veröffentlicht. Tara Vanflower hat bisher 2 Soloalben veröffentlicht, "This Womb Like Liquid Honey" 1999 bei Projekt Records und "My Little Fire-Filled Heart" 2005 bei Silber Records. Mike VanPortfleet und Tara Vanflower sind inzwischen ein glückliches Ehepaar und betreiben gemeinsam das Label Lycium Music. Es gibt ein tolles Foto des Ehepaars, auf dem sie das 1930 entstandene Gemälde "American Gothic" von Grant Wood nachstellen. Mike VanPortfleet: I wouldn't call myself optimistic, but I do feel hope. I'm not nearly as somber as Lycia's music may seem to indicate. The creation of music is an emotional release to me. It is an emotional vent. When I look at the world around me I do see much that troubles me and I have been called cynical by some people who are around me on a daily basis. Perhaps I may be seen as negative. I don't think I am, but some may see me that way. I'm inspired by deep feelings, probably not much different than most people that create. I'm just filtering it in a different way. I prefer to see myself as a realist that is also very reflective. In my non music life I'm a realist, when I create I'm reflective. But I do see hope, especially of late, through the eyes of my little boy. Okay, ich höre gerne Darkwave und sehe gerne alte Horror- bzw. Monsterfilme. Als Gruftie würde ich mich nicht bezeichnen. Ich bin ein Fritz, ein Pop-Fritz, yeah.
