Nach der Auflösung von Kyuss gründete Josh Homme 1996 die neue Band Gamma Ray, die 1996 beim Label Man's Ruin die Single "If Only Everything / Born Tu Hula" veröffentlichte. Als die Band bemerkte, dass es in Deutschland eine Metalband mit dem Namen Gamma Ray gab, nannte sie sich in Queens Of The Stone Age um. Josh Homme: Kings would be too macho. The Kings of the Stone Age wear armor and have axes and wrestle. The Queens of the Stone Age hang out with the Kings of the Stone Age's girlfriends when they wrestle. Rock should be heavy enough for the boys and sweet enough for the girls. That way everyone's happy and it's more of a party. Kings of the Stone Age is too lopsided. Beim Debütalbum "Queens Of The Stone Age", das 1998 bei Loosegroove Records erschien, bestand die Band aus Josh Homme (Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Keyboards) und Alfredo Hernandéz (Drums). Das Album war in den USA zwar wenig erfolgreich, aber in Teilen Europas und Australien verkaufte es sich gut. Die Queens Of The Stone Age unterschrieben bei Interscope Records, wo die Alben "Rated R" 2000, "Songs For The Deaf" 2002, "Lullabies To Paralyze" 2005 und "Era Vulgaris" 2007 erschienen. Das Album "Songs For The Deaf", auf dem auch der gleichnamige Song zu finden ist, schaffte es in Großbritannien, Norwegen, Deutschland und Australien in die Top Ten, in den USA gelang der Band das erst mit dem Album "Lullabies To Paralyze". Oh, bevor ichs vergesse, die Band stammt aus Palm Desert, Kalifornien. Weiter ging es dann bei Matador Records, wo bisher noch die Alben "...Like Clockwork" 2013, "Villains" 2017 und "In Times New Roman..." 2023 erschienen sind. Aktuell besteht die Band aus Josh Homme, Troy Van Leeuwen (Guitar, Lap Steel Guitar, Keyboards, Percussion, Backing Vocals), Michael Shuman (Bass, Keyboards, Backing Vocals), Dean Fertita (Keyboards, Guitar, Percussion, Backing Vocals) und Jon Theodore (Drums, Percussion, Sampler). Neben den Queens Of Stone Age ist Josh Homme noch mit den Bands Eagles Of Death Metal und Them Crooked Vultures in der Popwelt unterwegs. Them Crooked Vultures sind so etwas wie eine Supergroup, Josh Homme, John Paul Jones und Dave Grohl, wow. Josh Homme: I'm in three bands, and I love to produce records of other bands, and I have a family that I love. I wanted to be everything for everybody and do all of that... I think I just really beat myself up until I got really sick and needed surgery, because it was physically manifesting itself. Hört euch vor dem Schlafengehen auch noch den Song "Wrong Bathroom" 1996 von Tribe 8 an, ist auch sehr toll. Oh, habe gerade im Netz gelesen, dass sich Them Crooked Vultures 2022 aufgelöst haben.
