Nochmals der Legendary Stardust Cowboy alias Norman Carl Odam, diesmal mit dem Song "I Hate CD's", yeah. Der Song erschien 1992 bei Norton Records als Single, auf der B-Side ist der Song "Linda" zu hören. Sophomore stomp from the good looking one on the Norton roster: LSC! A-side's a wild rockin' tirade against compost discs, backside is a willful, moody love bray that positively oozes. Uups, beide Songs sind auch auf dem 1991 bei Norton Records erschienenen Album "Retro Rocket Back To The Earth" enthalten. Das Album wurde in der Besetzung The Legendary Stardust Cowboy (Vocals, Bugle), Maya Knox (Fiddle), Frank Novicki (Guitar), Teddy Bear Jones (Bass) und Joey Myers (Drums) eingespielt. Ein Bugle ist eine Signaltrompete. Outsider Music, yeah. Outsider Music is created by musicians who are not part of the commercial music industry and who write music that ignores standard musical or lyrical conventions, either because they have no formal training or because they disagree with conventional rules. Outsider musicians usually have much 'greater individual control over the final creative' product either because of a low budget or because of their 'inability or unwillingness to cooperate' with modifications by a record label or producer. So lautet eine Definition für Outsider Music bzw. Outsider Musiker*innen, die ich im Netz gefunden habe. Unter dem Titel "The Curious Universe Of Outsider And Incorrect Music" listet ein gewisser bzw. eine gewisse Keep Punching auf, was für ihn oder sie Outsider Music ist und was nicht. Outsider Music IS NOT: novelty recordings / merely bad music / avantgarde weirdness / exotica lounge music unless it's really inept or genuine but strange / outdated musical conventions (mainstream in the 1920s, campy now) / anything where the artist is conscious or aware of being 'bad' or 'kitschy', it can't be deliberate. Outsider Music IS (or can be): inept but sincere / celebrity vocals (aka "Golden Throats") / incredibly pretentious / the work of people with, ah, problems / like eavesdropping / stuff that makes you go 'What the heck?!'. Mit "Golden Throats" meint Keep Punching die bei Rhino Records erschienene Albenserie, da gibt es insgesamt 4 Stück, "Golden Throats -The Great Celebrity Sing Off" 1988, "Golden Throats 2 - More Celebrity Rock Oddities!" 1991, “Golden Throats 3 - Sweethearts Of Rodeo Drive" 1995 und "Golden Throats 4 - Celebrities Butcher The Beatles" 1997. Die ersten beiden Alben dieser Serie habe ich in meine Sammlung aufgenommen, sie machen Freude, aber hörenswerter finde ich die von Irwin Chusid zusammengestellten und bei Gammon Records erschienenen Alben "Songs In The Key Of Z - The Curious Universe Of Outsider Music" 2000 und "Songs In The Key Of Z -The Curious Universe Of Outsider Music, Vol.2" 2002. Empfehlenswert sind auch die Alben "The Rhino Brothers Present The World’s Worst Records!" 1983 und "The Rhino Brothers Present The World’s Worst Records Vol.2" 1985, die bei bei Rhino Records erschienen sind. Weiters befinden sich in meiner Sammlung die Compilations "The Incorrect Music Companion" 2001 und "Cool and Strange Music Magazine's Thrift Store Compilation" 2003, die man sich gratis bei WFMU’s Beware of the Block herunterladen kann. Dana Countryman: From the years 1996-2003 I published a magazine called COOL AND STRANGE MUSIC MAGAZINE. We concentrated on featuring oddball musicians, from over the past 6 decades. A record label approached me with the idea of compiling a CD compilation that would feature obscure artists, doing mostly original songs that (hopefully) would have never been copyrighted. Okay, Outsider Musicians wie Amanda, Daniel Johnston, Dean Milan, Elton & Betty White, Frances Baskerville, Hasil Adkins, Jan Terri, Jandek, Kit Ream, Klaus Beyer, Mrs. Miller, Peter Grudzien, Roky Erickson, The Legendary Stardust Cowboy, The Shaggs, Tiny Tim, Wesley Willis, Wild Man Fischer, Wing etcetera etcetera sollten sowieso in keiner Popsammlung fehlen. Beenden wir dieses Kapitel mit einem Zitat von Walter Benjamin: Nur nebenbei sei angemerkt, dass es fürs Denken gar keinen besseren Start gibt als das Lachen. Und insbesondere bietet die Erschütterung des Zwerchfells dem Gedanken gewöhnlich bessere Chancen dar als die der Seele.
