Die Frogs wurden 1980 von den Brüdern Jimmy (Vocals, Guitar, Bass) und Dennis Flemion (Drums, Keyboards, Vocals) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin gegründet. Anfangs nannten sie sich The Gila Monsters, dann The Stupid Frogs und schließlich nur mehr The Frogs. Im Jahr 1988 veröffentlichte die Band in Eigenregie ihr Debütalbum "The Frogs", das 1999 bei Moikai Records wiederveröffentlicht wurde. Das nächste Album "It’s Only Right And Natural" 1989 erschien dann bei Homestead Records, auf diesem Album ist auch der Song "Homos" zu finden. "Homos" wurde 1999 von der australischen Punkband Frenzal Rhomb gecovert. Die Frogs werden auch im Christian documentary film "Hell's Bells - The Dangers Of Rock'n'Roll" 1989 von Eric Hollander und Eric Holmberg erwähnt. The film portrays various lyrics and visual imagery in rock music and rock stars as evidence that it is satanic or anti-Christian. Die Frogs nahmen 1991 für Homestead Records das Album "Racially Yours" auf, das sich satirisch mit racism and patriotism in den USA beschäftigte. Homestead Records befand das Album aber zu controversial und lehnte die Veröffentlichung ab. "Racially Yours" erschien dann um 12 Songs erweitert im Jahr 2000 bei 4 Alarm Records. The Frogs kamen nach Homestead Records bei Matador Records unter, wo die beiden Singles "Now You Know You’re Black / Adam + Steve" 1994 und "Here Comes Santa’s Pussy / Have A Merry X-Mas / Snow Kisses" 1995 sowie das Album "My Daughter The Broad" 1996 erschienen. Mein Lieblingssong auf diesem Album ist "God Is Gay". Yeah! Im Jahr 1997 erschien bei Scratchie Records die EP "Starjob", auf dem die Frogs von Billy Corgan und Jimmy Chamberlin musikalisch unterstützt werden, prominente Unterstützung von den Smashing Pumpkins sozusagen. Bei 4 Alarm Records erschien 1999 das Album "Bananimals" und bei Scratchie Records 2001 das Album "Hopscotch Lollipop Sunday Surprise", danach gaben die Frogs ihre Alben wieder selbst heraus. Am 5. Juli 2012 wurden die beiden Digital-Alben "Count Yer Blessingz" und "Squirrel Bunny Jupiter Deluxe" online gestellt und am 7. Juli 2012 ertrank Dennis Flemion beim Schwimmen im Wind Lake. Die Frogs gehören jedenfalls in jede Popsammlung, yeah, das Album "It’s Only Right And Natural" wurde 2019 vom Label The End Of All Music neu aufgelegt. Uups. Habe gerade gemerkt, dass einer meiner Lieblingsjazzer in dieser Liste noch nicht aufscheint. Rahsaan Roland Kirk. Meine Anhörtips zum Einstieg wären die Songs "The Inflated Tear" 1967, "Volunteered Slavery" 1969, "Something For Trane That Trane Could Have Said" 1971 oder "Freaks For The Festival" 1975. Rahsaan Roland Kirk war ein toller Musiker und sollte auch in keiner Popsammlung fehlen. Er starb 1977 im Alter von 42 Jahren nach einem Schlaganfall. Jazz, yeah. Übrigens, Jimmy und Dennis Flemion bezeichneten ihre Musik als Al Jolson meets 60's/70's rock meets burlesque w/some performance art thrown in. Ich nenne die Musik der Frogs schlicht Glam Punk, yeah.
