The KLF sind ein britisches Electronic-Music-Duo, yeah. KLF steht für Kings of Low Frequeny und/oder Kopyright Liberation Front. The KLF sind King Boy D alias Bill Drummond und Rockman Rock alias Jimmy Cauty. Bill Drummond war Gitarrist der Punkband Big In Japan, gründete 1978 gemeinsam mit David Balfe das Label Zoo Records, managte die Bands The Teardrops Explodes und Echo & The Bunnymen und arbeitete als A&R Mann bei WEA Records. Im Jahr 1987 kündigte er seinen Job und gründete mit Jimmy Cauty die Band The Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu und das Label The Sound Of Mu(sic), auf dem 1987 das Debütalbum "1987 (What The Fuck Is Going On?)" erschien. Bill Drummond: We'd just got ourselves a sampler, and we went sample-crazy. We just went through my whole collection of records, sampling tons of stuff and putting it all together, and it was a real rush of excitement, when we were doing it. When we put that record out, we knew what we were doing was illegal, but we thought it was gonna be such an underground record, nobody would ever hear about it. So the first thing that shocked us is that British rock papers gave a big review. Der Name The Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu bezieht sich auf die Gruppe The Justified Ancients Of Mummu aus der Roman-Trilogie "Illiminatus!" von Robert Shea und Robert Anton Wilson, die 1978 beim Sphinx Verlag in deutscher Übersetzung erschienen ist. Die Trilogie erzählt eine mit Sex- und Drogenerfahrungen angereicherte Reise durch mehrere historische und fiktive Verschwörungstheorien, die die beiden Autoren um den 1785 verbotenen bayerischen Geheimbund der Illuminaten herum spinnen. Ich habe die Trilogie nicht gelesen, diese sehr verkürzte Inhaltsangabe fand ich im Netz. Mit den Songs "All You Need Is Love", "Whitney Joins The JAMs" und "Down Town" schafften es The Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu in die Top Ten der britischen Indie-Charts. Unter dem Namen The Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu veröffentlichten Drummond und Cauty 1988 noch das Album "Who Killed The JAMs?". The JAMs ist die Abkürzung für The Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu. Das Label hatten sie inzwischen in KLF Communications umbenannt. Ihren ersten internationalen Hit hatten Drummond und Cauty 1988 mit dem Song "Doctorin' The Tardis" unter dem neuen Gruppennamen The Timelords. "Doctorin' The Tardis" enthält u.a. Samples von Gary Glitter und The Sweet. "Chill Out", das erste Album unter dem Namen The KLF erschien 1990 bei KLF Communications und ging leider ein bisschen unter. Jimmy Cauty veröffentlichte 1990 auch sein erstes Soloalbum "Space" unter dem Pseudonym Space. Ambient House, yeah. Mehr kommerziellen Erfolg hatten The KLF dann 1991 mit dem Album "The White Room". Mit den Songs "What Time Is Love", "3 a.m. Eternal", "Last Train To Transcentral" und "Justified And Ancient (Stand By The JAMs)" hatten sie weitere internationale Hits. Im Jahr 1993 erschien noch die Single "K. Cera Cera (War Is Over If You Want It)" unter dem Namen K Foundation presents The Red Army Choir und 1994 verkündeten Bill Drummond und Jimmy Cauty mit einer spektakulären Aktion auf der schottischen Insel Jura, wo sie vor laufenden Kameras eine Million Pfund verbrannten, das Ende ihrer musikalischen Laufbahn. Bill Drummond veröffentlichte weiterhin Musik unter Pseudonymen wie Aurora Borealis, The Daytonas oder The Fuckers sowie als The Blizzard King, einem Duo mit Mark Manning. Jimmy Cauty war ebenfalls weiterhin musikalisch aktiv, er veröffentlichte unter Pseudonymen wie Advanced Acoustic Armaments, Greybeard, Robo-Bop oder The Scourge Of The Earth und gemeinsam mit Billy Childish unter dem Namen Silent Revolt 2009 die Single "God Save Marcel Duchamp / Art Hate". Im Jahr 1988 hatten Bill Drummond und Jimmy Cauty das Buch "The Manual (How To Have A Number One the Easy Way)" veröffentlicht, das 2008 beim Verlag Deutsche Grammophon Literatur unter dem Titel "Das Handbuch (Der schnelle Weg zum Nr.1 Hit)" in deutscher Übersetzung erschien. Beim Verlag Faber & Faber erschien 2017 das Buch "2023 - A Trilogy" von The Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu, das beim 3-tägigen Festival "Welcome To The Dark Ages" in Liverpool präsentiert wurde. Weiters wurde das Projekt "The People's Pyramid" vorgestellt, die aus Ziegeln, die jeweils 23 Gramm menschlicher Asche enthalten sollen, erbaut werden soll. Der erste Ziegel enthält 23 Gramm Asche von Simon Cauty, dem Bruder von Jimmy Cauty, der 2016 verstorben ist. Jeder Mensch kann um 99,- Pfund einen Ziegel kaufen. Buy now, die later. Jimmy Cauty: It's easy to make it sound like a joke, but it isn't a joke, it's deadly serious and it's a long-term project.
