No Wave aus New York, yeah. Ut wurde 1978 von Nina Canal (Vocals, Bass, Guitar, Drums), Jacqui Ham (Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Drums) und Sally Young (Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Drums) in New York gegründet. Kurze Zeit gehörte auch noch die Gitarristin Karen Achenbach zu Ut. Die erste Veröffentlichung war 1982 die Kassette "Ut Live 24 Nov 1981" beim eigenen Label Out Tapes. Das Label hieß dann ab 1984 Out Records, wo von Ut noch die beiden 12“-Singles "Sham Shack / This Bliss / New Colour / Exilee Goes Out" 1984 und "Confidential / Bedouin / Tell It" 1985 sowie das Debütalbum "Conviction" 1985 erschienen. Ut unterschrieb 1986 bei Blast First Records, wo noch die beiden Alben "In Gut's House" 1987 und "Griller" 1989 erschienen. Ut lösten sich 1991 auf. Nina Canal wurde nach dem Ende von Ut Mitglied bei Rhys Chatham's 100 Guitars Projekt, widmete sich dann aber vermehrt der Malerei und machte u.a. auch eine Ausbildung zur Tai-Chi-Lehrerin. Jacqui Ham gründete Mitte der 90er Jahre mit Robert Smith (Guitar, Drum Machine) und Dominic Weeks (Bass, Synthesizer) die Band Dial, die bisher die 5 Alben "Infraction" 1996, "Distance Runner" 2000, "168k" 2007, "Western Front" 2012 und "Noise Opera" 2016 veröffentlichte. Sally Young machte nach Ut mit der Band Quint weiter, der noch die Musiker*innen Ian R. Watson (Guitar, Trumpet), Pookie Jin (Violin), Jamie Sellers (Bass) und Steve Gilchrist (Drums) angehörten. Quint veröffentlichte 1998 bei Egypt Records das Album "Time Wounds All Heals". Das Magazine N.Y. Rocker schrieb über Ut: The raw power and sheer drive of Ut is quite straightforward and unmistakable. This is a true threatening guitar band. Bei Out Records erschien 2017 die CD "Ut & Confidential", auf der sich die Songs der beiden ersten 12”-Singles befinden. Jacqui Ham: Originally there were two kinds of aesthetics going on: the sound of the so-called 'No Wave' was more dirt, raw, dissonance, harder in every way, and the Soho sound was arty, intellectual, detached. Sally Young: Our decision to switch instruments didn't come about as a dogmatic idea or conceptual plan. It was just more fun and stimulating that way, as we all enjoyed the experience of playing different instruments and exploring what we could do on them. Empfehlenswert sind die Compilations "No New York" 1978, "N.Y. No Wave" 2003, "New York Noise" 2003, "New York Noise, Vol.2" 2005 und "New York Noise, Vol.3" 2006. Ut sind auf den New-York-Noise-Alben mit den Songs "Sham Shack", "Ampheta Speak" und "Tell It" vertreten. Weitere All-Female-No-Wave-Bands aus New York waren Disband, Pulsallama, Snatch, The Bloods und Y Pants. Just a tottering rod / Waving in the sea slop / Just a tottering rod / Waving in the sham slop / Just a tottering rod / Holding up this sham shack. All-Female-Bands gabs natürlich immer in der Popmusik, bereits Mitte der 20er Jahre startete die Jazz-Big-Band The Ingenues, in den 30er Jahren betraten The Harlem Playgirls und The International Sweethearts Of Rhythm die Bühne. Die Trompeterin und Sängerin Tiny Davis spielte 1935 bis 1936 bei den Harlem Playgirls und dann bis 1947 bei den International Sweetheart Of Rhythm. Tiny Davis konnte es sicherlich mit Louis Armstrong aufnehmen, sowohl musikalisch, als auch was die Show anbelangt. Yeah! In den 60er Jahren schafften es All-Female-Bands erstmals auf vordere Plätze der Charts, Goldie & The Gingerbreads mit dem Song "Can't You Hear My Heartbeat" 1965 oder The Feminine Complex mit "I've Been Working On You" 1968. Auch Suzi Quatro startete ihre musikalische Laufbahn in der All-Female-Band The Pleasure Seekers. Suzi Quatro: I joined an all-girl band in Detroit and, although I was a pianist and drummer, I was asked to play bass because no one else wanted to. When I strapped it on, it fit me as good as my leathers. At the first gig we played, I looked out at the audience and thought, 'This is what I'm going to be doing for the rest of my life'. Kathleen Hanna: You learn that the only way to get rock-star power as a girl is to be a groupie and bare your breasts and get chosen for the night. We learn that the only way to get anywhere is through men. And it's a lie. Kathleen Hanna war von 1989 bis 1999 Sängerin der Feminist-Punk-Band Bikini Kill. Aktuell ist sie mit der Dance-Punk-Band The Julie Ruin in der Popwelt unterwegs. Hört euch nach "Sham Shack" von Ut auch gleich mal "Race Horse" 1949 von Tiny Davis & Her Orchestra an, ist beides Great Pop!!! Tiny Davis starb 1994 im Alter von 86 Jahren in Chicago, Illinois. Tiny Davis betrieb in den 50er Jahren mit ihrer Partnerin Ruby Lucas in Chicago den Club Tiny & Ruby's Gay Spot. Ruby Lucas war Drummerin der International Sweethearts Of Rhythm, ihr stage name lautete Renei Phelan. Greta Schiller und Andrea Weiss drehten 1988 über die beiden Frauen den Dokumentarfilm "Tiny & Ruby: Hell Divin' Women". I love Pop, yeah! I love Bier, yeah! And I love Ilse, yeah yeah yeah!!!
