Ich habe den Song "Riddler 5" von You Fantastic! auf der tollen Compilation "Camp Skin Craft: Now Wave (!)" entdeckt, die 1997 beim Label Skin Craft Records erschienen ist. Das Label wurde 1991 von Mark Fischer und Rob Syers gegründet und startete mit einer Split-Single der Bands Dazzling Killmen und Mother's Day. You Fantastic! haben in der zweiten Hälfte der 90er Jahre bei Skin Graft Records die beiden EPs "Riddler" 1996 und "Pals" 1997 sowie das Album "Homesickness" 1998 veröffentlicht und bestanden aus Tim Garrigan (Guitar), Darin Gray (Bass) und Thymme Jones (Drums, Trumpet, Tape). Auf der EP "Pals" half noch Julie Pomerleau (Viola) mit. Tim Garrigan und Darin Gray spielten davor bereits in der Band Dazzling Killmen zusammen, der noch Nick Sakes (Vocals, Guitar) und Blake Fleming (Drums) angehörten. Nach dem Ende von You Fantastic! gründete Tim Garrigan mit Nathan Elliot Warren (Guitar) und Jeremy Zoar Brantlinger (Drums) die Band Phut. Darin Gray war nach You Fantastic! noch in die Bands Chikamorachi und Grand Ulena involviert, aktuell ist er mit dem Komponisten und Drummer Glenn Kotche unter dem Namen On Fillmore unterwegs. On Fillmore hat zuletzt 2017 bei Northern Spy Records das Album "Happiness Of Living" veröffentlicht. Thymme Jones hat zuletzt gemeinsam mit Drazek Fuscaldo 2023 bei Feeding Tube Records das Album "Wings Dipped In Fire" veröffentlicht. Drazek Fuscaldo ist ein Psychedelic-Pop-Trio aus Chicago, das auch unter dem Namen Mako Sica veröffentlicht und aus Brent J. Fuscaldo (Vocals, Bass, Guitar, Percussion), Przemyslaw Krzysztof Drazek (Guitar, Trumpet, Mandolin, Percussion) und Chaetan Newell (Drums, Percussion, Keyboards) besteht. Der Song "Riddler 5" ist auf der EP "Riddler" 1996 sowie auf der Compilation "Camp Skin Craft: Now Wave (!)" 1997 zu finden. Die Musik von You Fantastic! könnte man als experimentellen Art-Noise-Pop bezeichnen, yeah. Skin Graft Records ist ein tolles Label und You Fantastic! waren eine tolle Band, also unbedingt anhören. Mark Fischer: A lot of people think I still live in Chicago and the Chicago P.O. Box is still printed on a lot of the old records, so I think it's still perceived as a Chicago label to a certain extent. Not many people know that I actually live in Europe and I don't really advertise the fact that I don't live in the States, just because I prefer the privacy I suppose. I think the label is still associated with Chicago to a certain degree, maybe not so much by the younger kids who may be just learning about the label now. I still have a lot of people who, for whatever reason, e-mail me and say 'Hey, I'm gonna be in Chicago, come see my band' that I have to tell 'Well, y'know I'm not there anymore.' Even when I lived in Chicago, I had pretty close ties to Europe through Southern Studios in London and I worked pretty closely with a guy in Hamburg, Germany and I came over to Europe and toured with U.S. Maple and Melt-Banana. In some ways, Europe was keener on Skin Graft early on than the States was, so Europe has always been kind of a big part of the Skin Graft pie, or at least where we would see our sales. As far as effecting the label, not really. I don't have the kind of scene support that I had in Chicago, for example, but I think a lot of that isn't a reflection on Vienna, it's more a reflection on getting to be an older guy and I'm not hanging out with a bunch of kids at rock shows anymore, like I used to when I was in Chicago. That's true, I think, of most labels. As time goes on, everyone gets a little bit older and you have to think about 'real life' a bit, so I'm not a guy who goes to rock'n'roll shows every weekend anymore. In that sense, it's different, but I think that would be the case even if I was in Chicago still. And it was, to a certain extent, near the end of my living in Chicago. Everybody was getting older, moving away - that's just sorta what happens. Ja, Mark Fischer lebt zurzeit in Wien, Österreich, wo es sich gut alt werden läßt, wie man an mir persönlich beobachten kann. Ich werde heuer 68 Jahre alt, wow. Mark Fischer und Rob Syers sind auch Comicszeichner, yeah, es gibt nicht nur Skin Graft Records sondern auch Skin Graft Comix. Zuletzt erschien bei Skin Graft Records 2023 das Album "Effusive Supreme" von der Band Lovely Little Girls aus Chicago, die aus Gregory Jacobson (Vocals), Jon Beavo (Keyboards), Jeff Goulet (Guitar), Alex Perkolup (Bass), Charlie Werber (Drums), Cory Bengsten (Saxophone), Mike Hagedorn (Trombone), Sacha Mullin (Backing Vocals) und L. Wyatt (Backing Vocals) besteht, seit 2005 in der Popwelt unterwegs ist und bisher 6 Alben veröffentlicht hat. Yeah!
