Der Song "Left Hand Luke And The Beggar Boys" stammt vom Album "Tanx", das 1995 bei Edsel Records als DoppelCD wiederveröffentlicht wurde. Auf CD1 ist das Originalalbum und die Singles "Children Of The Revolution / Jitterbug Love", "Solid Gold Easy Action / Sunken Rags" und "20th Century Boy / Free Angel" zu finden. Auf CD2 "The Alternate Tanx" gibt es Studio Rough Mixes und Acoustic And Bass Demos der Albumsongs zu hören. Ich habe "Tanx" als LP in meiner Sammlung und als Bolan-Fan hab ich mir die DoppelCD dann auch noch angeschafft, irgendwie blöd, aber war nicht zu verhindern. T.Rex waren zur Tanx-Zeit als Band noch intakt, also Marc Bolan (Vocals, Guitar), Mickey Finn (Conga, Hand Percussion, Vocals), Steve Currie (Bass) und Bill Legend (Drums). Im Studio waren natürlich einige Gastmusiker*innen wie Elton John alias Reginald Dwight am Piano oder Howard Casey am Saxophon mit dabei. Produzent Tony Visconti ist am Mellotron und als Backgroundsänger zu hören. Gloria Jones, die seit 1972 mit Marc Bolan ein Paar war, wird auf "Tanx" noch nicht als Musikerin angeführt, sondern erst beim nächsten Album "Zinc Alloy And The Hidden Riders Of Tomorrow - A Creamed Cage In August" 1974. Gloria Jones wurde 1945 in Cincinnati, Ohio geboren und hatte 1964 mit dem Song "Tainted Love" einen Hit. Im Jahr 1966 veröffentlichte sie bei Uptown Records das Album "Come Go With Me" und wurde vom Label als Northern Queen Of Soul vermarktet. Als Mitglied des Los Angeles Cast des Musicals "Hair" tourte Gloria Jones 1969 durch Europa und bei einem Auftritt in London begegnete sie zum ersten Mal Marc Bolan. Zurück in den USA tat sie sich mit der Lyrikerin Pam Sawyer zusammen und gemeinsam schrieben sie Songs für Bands wie The Jackson 5, The Commodores, Gladys Knight & The Pips oder The Four Tops. Für die 72er US-Tour von T.Rex wurde Gloria Jones als Backgroundsängerin engagiert und Marc Bolan und sie wurden ein Paar. Im Jahr 1975 erblickte Sohn Rolan Bolan alias Rolan Seymour Feld das Licht der Welt. Marc Bolan produzierte 1976 ihr Album "Vixen", das bei EMI Records erschien und die Bolan-Songs "Tell Me Now", "Get It On", "Drive Me Crazy (Disco Lady)" und "Sailors Of The Highway" enthält. Ebenfalls bei EMI Records erschien 1977 die Single "To Know Him Is To Love Him / City Port" von Marc Bolan & Gloria Jones. Im Jahr 1977 passierte auch der tragische Autounfall, bei dem Marc Bolan starb und Gloria Jones schwer verletzt überlebte. Gloria Jones ging nach ihrer Genesung mit Sohn Rolan zurück in die USA, wo sie noch die Alben "Windstorm" 1978 und "Reunited" 1982 veröffentlichte, danach arbeitete sie als musical supervisor for films. Sohn Rolan lebt inzwischen wieder in London, er hat 2013 das Album "Electric Sunset" veröffentlicht, auf dem er auch den T.Rex-Songs "Children Of The Revolution" interpretiert. Gloria Jones: I didn't come out of shock for 14 years. Marc was my soul-mate and we believed we had a great future together, which makes his death all the harder to bear. There was the rock 'n' roll side to Marc, but really he was a quiet, humble boy. I never saw the addictive side of him. Once Rolan was born he became a hands-on dad, and was very proud of him.
