Dr. Feelgood: "Hunting, Shooting, Fishing" (1987) |
Ein zweiter Song von Dr. Feelgood. Pup Rock, yeah. I ride a mare with a neck of steel / I pack a spare with a loaded wheel / Shoes and tie made of rhino hide / I keep an eye on the countryside / I'm hunting, shooting, fishing / Ahead of the pack / I keep an eye over my shoulder / But I never look back. In die UK-Charts schafften es Dr. Feelgood mit den Songs "Sneakin’ Suspicion" und "She’s A Windup" 1977, "Down At The Doctors" 1978 sowie "Milk And Alcohol", "As Long As The Price Is Right" und "Put Him Out Of Your Mind" 1979. I carry cash buried in my boot / I spit on thrash that I pass en route / I pay each fine with a mental note / I sign no line and decline to vote / I'm hunting, shooting, fishing / Ahead of the pack / I keep an eye over my shoulder / But I never look back / I never look back. Dr. Feelgood bestehen seit 1971, wow, anfangs waren es Lee Brilleaux, Wilko Johnson alias John Wilkinson (Vocals, Guitar, Piano), John Potter (Piano), John B. 'Sparko' Sparks (Bass, Backing Vocals) und Terry 'Bandsman' Howard (Drums). Diese Besetzung hielt aber nicht lange, beim ersten Album "Down By The Jetty" 1975 waren es dann Lee Brilleaux, Wilko Johnson, John B. 'Sparko' Sparks und The Big Figure alias John Martin (Drums). Die aktuelle Besetzung von Dr. Feelgood sind Robert Kane (Vocals, Harmonica), Steve Walwyn (Guitar, Slide Guitar, Backing Vocals), Phil H. Mitchell (Bass, Guitar, Backing Vocals) und Kevin Morris (Drums, Percussion, Backing Vocals). I keep no files and no fixed abode / I eat up miles on a twisted road / I fight the sky with a lightning rod / I'm riding high by the grace of god / I know the names of the men and dives / I've heard the claims of their tortured wives / I've searched for clues caught 'em in the act / They've blown a fuse when I've made contact / I'm hunting, shooting, fishing / Ahead of the pack / I keep an eye over my shoulder / But I never look back / I never look back / I never look back / I never look back. Andere hörenswerte Pup Rock-Bands waren Brinsley Schwarz, Ducks Deluxe, Kilburn & The High Roads oder Eddie & The Hot Rods. Sehr hörenswert ist die 1996 bei EMI Records erschienene Compilation "Naughty Rhythms - The Best Of Pub Rock" mit Brinsley Schwarz, Eggs Over Easy, Bees Make Honey, Ernie Graham, Help Yourself, Chilli Willi & The Red Hot Peppers, Ducks Deluxe, Frankie Miller, Kilburn & The High Roads, Dr. Feelgood, Ace, Kokomo, Charlie & The Wide Boys, Kursaal Flyers, The Winkies, Graham Parker, Starry Eyed And Laughing, Roogalator, The Count Bishops, Eddie & The Hot Rods und The 101'ers. Wilko Johnson: If we'd stayed together, we'd have fitted in perfectly with punk. In fact, we'd have walked all over punk. But by then it was all blowing up in our faces. People were more interested in the Sex Pistols and The Clash. They weren't interested in this band splitting up because of some obscure row. And in the excitement surrounding punk, we were forgotten. Bei Wilko Johnson wurde 2012 Bauchspeicheldrüsenkrebs diagnostiziert. Wilko Johnson: Well, I haven't got a spleen, I haven't got a pancreas and I've only got half my stomach. So along with the three-kilo tumour they took out of me, I'm a lot lighter! Er ist auf den Feelgood-Alben "Be Seeing You" 1977, "Private Practice" 1978, "As It Happens" 1979, "Let It Roll" 1979, "A Case Of The Shakes" 1980 und "On The Job" 1981 zu hören, wovon "As It Happens" und "On The Job" Livealben sind. John Idan: Everyone who knew Gypie will tell you what a sweet guy he was. And he really was! His playing, particularly on stage, was so much fun to watch, listen to and be a part of. Great stage craft and presence. More than this, Gypie also pocessed an amazing wealth of musical knowledge. There were no boundaries for him. He loved all types of music and happily turned you on to things that he'd think you would enjoy. He certainly helped to broaden my musical knowledge as well as my own guitar playing. Gonna miss him a lot! 17.02.2022 |
