Hole gab es von 1989 bis 2002 und von 2009 bis 2012 und die einzige die immer mit dabei war ist Courtney Love alias Courtney Harrison (Vocals, Guitar). Gegründet wurde die Band von Courtney Love und Eric Erlandson (Guitar), der bis 2002 bei Hole mitmachte und seither als Studiomusiker arbeitet und in Los Angeles Kreatives Schreiben studierte. Die erste Besetzung bestand aus Courtney Love, Eric Erlandson, Mike Geisbrecht (Guitar), Lisa Roberts (Bass) und Caroline Rue (Drums). Geisbrecht und Roberts verabschiedeten sich aber bereits 1990 wieder und als neue Bassistin kam Jill Emery in die Band. Im Jahr 1992 gingen dann Rue und Emery und wurden von Leslie Hardy (Bass) und Patty Schemel (Drums) ersetzt. Leslie Hardy blieb nur für ein Jahr, danach übernahm den Bass Kristen Pfaff, die aber 1994 im Alter von 27 Jahren an einer Überdosis Heroin starb. Neue Bassistin wurde Melissa Auf der Maur. Patty Schemel verließ Hole 1998 und gab die Drumsticks an Samantha Maloney weiter, ja, und 2002 löste Courtney Love die Band auf. Im Jahr 2009 kehrten Hole in der Besetzung Courtney Love, Micko Larkin (Guitar), Shawn Dailey (Bass) und Stu Fisher (Drums) in die Popwelt zurück. Bei Mercury Records erschien 2010 das Album "Nobody’s Daughter" und die Single "Skinny Little Bitch / Codine". Ja, und 2012 war es dann so weit, Hole verabschiedeten sich von ihren Fans. Das Abschiedskonzert fand in der Besetzung Courtney Love, Micko Larkin, Shawn Dailey und Scott Lipps (Drums) statt, für einige Songs gesellten sich die ehemaligen Mitglieder Eric Erlandson, Melissa Auf der Maur und Patty Schemel dazu. Seither hat die Band immer wieder mal Konzerte gespielt, doch von einer Reunion will Courtney Love nichts wissen. Courtney Love: No one's been dormant. Patty teaches drumming and drums in three indie bands. Melissa has her metal-nerd thing going on - her dream is to play Castle Donington with Dokken. Eric hasn’t flipped - I jammed with him, he’s still doing his Thurston Moore-crazy tunings, still corresponding with Kevin Shields. We all get along great. There are bands who reunite and hate each others' guts. Mit den Songs "Doll Parts", "Celebrity Skin" und "Malibu" schafften es Hole in die Top Ten der US-Alternative-Charts. Ja, Hole schenkten uns 4 Alben mit toller Punkmusik. In Plattenläden sind Hole meistens unter Grunge zu finden, manchmal auch unter Riot Grrrls. Egal.
